Or recently?
I’ve been on a bit of a Midlake binge, mostly in the car. At home it’s been the Bad Brains or other vinyl I’ve ripped recently.
Here’s today’s bike ride, with Nathaniel:
Soundtrack: Midlake - “It Covers the Hillsides”
It starts in Central Park and, um, ends in Central Park. (Huntington Beach’s Central Park, I mean, not NYC’s.)
And here’s some Bad Brains brilliance:
“House of Suffering”
Oh where can Jah love be found?
My dear, it’s here in the underground
Inside the hearts of your own children
In this house of suffering

which bad brains albums have you been listening to?

I just ripped Quickness today. I already have I Against I as mp3s. I’ll rip the Live album tomorrow.

quickness is good. everyone raves about i against i and i like it, but it hasn’t really grown on me as much as i would expect.
i have the vinyl of their first album, the one w/ the capitol dome being struck by lightning or something like that. such great songs, like “fearless vampire killers,” “attitude,” “sailin’ on,” “banned in dc.”
i wish i could have seen one of their shows in the early 80’s. would have been insane.

I Against I is my fave. Can you rip that first album? I can probably find it elsewhere.
I saw them live in 1990. I was pregnant at the time and scared the noise—or moshers—would hurt the baby (Nathaniel), so I stayed in the foyer for most of the show. Still one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.

Oh, and a live dvd was just released of them, a show from the mid-80s. It’s all over youtube.

What were those pink lines showing up? Was that just the recorder? I loved it when Nathaniel would look back at you –and the “no hands” thing I loved, too!
Yesterday I listened to a lot of newish jazz. Like Norah and Adele; some Buble and Harry.
I love your bike ride videos. I didn’t catch what that said at the end…let me try again…nope. Just got “Life is Short” –what else does it say on the bench?
September 23rd, 2008 at 8:25 am
It says:
LIFE IS SHORT
HURRY TO BE KIND
And the names of the people who donated the bench.
The pink lines are the sensor on my camera going bad! Actually it might just be my batteries, I don’t know. It happens in bright spots.
I love Adele and Norah.

I heard Carolina Liar yesterday in a movie. Had never heard of them before, but I did some listening on youtube and I think I’ll have to check them out even more.

This bike ride makes me happy. Love the soundtrack. Love Nathaniel’s zigzag riding and the “Look, Ma, no hands!”
I don’t know what I was listening to when you first posted, but right now I’m listening to Next Hundred Years from the DVD you sent.
