Some fun for a Friday.
I already did a post about PJ Harvey, so I won’t include her here. But I suspect she could line up all these female singers and kick their asses with one arm tied behind her back (and in spiked heels).
Still, these chicks are pretty dang awesome.
OK, here’s PJ too:
Who’d I leave out?

For some reason I’m fairly anti women singers. However, Alison Moyet & Siouxie make my short list.

I like Gwen Stefanin (kind of campy but I still like her). Annette Olzon is pretty awesome.

Pat Benatar was the first person I thought of. Also a big fan of Siouxsie and Alison Moyet. Are Kate Bush and Annie Lennox not rockin’ enough to qualify for kick ass? They’d be on my list. And no love for Debbie Harry?

I wasn’t really going for rockin’ as much as I was chicks with big attitudes. Annie qualifies, not sure about Kate. Debbie definitely.

Love Heart. Just so love them. Never heard of the Gathering, and you already know about my Siouxsie obsession. I’m with Gabby; most of the time I’m not too big into female singers, but I do love Mazzy Star and is it ok to admit that I love Bjork?

Uh, no. Never ok to admit that! Ha!

Pppppttttt Gabby! I will get you to admit that you like her. Yes, someday…

I almost posted a video of PJ Harvey w/Bjork but didn’t. (This one) I like Bjork mostly in small doses.

PJ could totally kick all their asses… What about Patty Smith? Or Ani DiFranco, Beth Ditto, or Nina Hagen. All good picks, but again, PJ wins.

i’m a little shocked you overlookd patti smith. i’m also surprised you didn’t put tracey thorn on your list. i’d add the woman from heavenly(i can’t seem to recall her name now), and maki nomiya from pizzicato five. oh, and the woman from dog faced hermans.

i love chicks that just wail and howl (so PJ qualifies). yes to Annie Lennox and Debbie Harry and Siouxsie. I’d like to see Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s really go nuts on stage. i once saw a band called the Centimeters and their singer was just so impermeable and self-confident (the audience hated them) that she’s always stuck in my memory.

That’s cool. Have you ever seen the Yeah Yeah Yeahs? I haven’t.
November 2nd, 2008 at 7:18 pm
nope, never seen ‘em. would like to, but you know how well that’s working out for me lately….

Siouxsie, Karen O, PJ Harvey and Kerri Hilson are up there with male bands such as U2, Joy Division and Elbow in terms of quality. I know I will be accused of being an obsessed weirdo for saying this (I will no longer attend her gig’s because of this mis-perception) but the world must know about a singer-songwriter called Rozi Plain, who could kick the collective asses of all the above-Though Siouxsie on “Swimming Horses and Kerri Hilson on “The Way I Are” come pretty close.

Damm-they have pulled the video of “White Rabbit” -one of my favorite songs of all time! Is there any way I can get this commercially?
