I’m Susan. 38, married for 19 years, with three kids. A Mormon housewife into doom metal. And this is my blog.

Ted Leo covered my favorite song, ever.

A lot’s been going on around here—and I’ve had no time to blog about it. I need to get caught up on everything!

Last weekend me and my friend Meg and her boyfriend Mike went to see Ted Leo. I think it was my 5th time seeing him.

Ted Leo

I took pictures with a film camera. Totally wasn’t sure if they’d come out. Most are blurry but a few were good.

See those people up in the balcony area? More about them later.

Ted Leo

I love the way he moves his feet on stage. He tends to go on his tip toes a lot.

He did a nice mix of old and new songs. I’m a little tired right now and can’t bring myself to write out the set list. But Meg’s boyfriend grabbed the set list off the stage, which was cool.

We managed to snag stage spots off to one side, even though we got there late (after the opening band had started playing).

Ted usually does a cover as part of his encore. This time he came out solo and did a song by the Waterboys—my favorite song, ever, “Fisherman’s Blues.” I could not believe it.

I found footage of it on youtube, and you can see me in the video. I’m standing right in front of the two shiny metal bars. You can see me grab Meg’s arm when I realized what song it was (when he sings the first line) to tell her it was my favorite song, ever.

Whoever took video of the song, thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Also, someone up in the balcony took pictures and posted them on Flickr. I stumbled onto them the other day.

Here’s one where you can see me and Meg.

Here’s Meg alone-literally, just Meg.

And here I am watching Ted.

One of my fave live experiences of the year, seeing him do the Waterboys. I even wrote him an email to thank him.

Sooo awesome. And may contain swears.

Music, Youtube

If you haven’t heard of Chat Roulette, it’s a site that lets you video-chat with random strangers. There’s no filters at all so I’ve heard like one in ten people you come across are naked men masturbating.

This guy did the coolest thing. He played his piano, improv, about each person he encountered.

What’s funny is everyone thought he was Ben Folds (he does look like him). So Ben Folds the other coolest thing. He did it too, during a concert!

I wish I knew what you were searching for.

I’ve been searching for this my whole life and never knew it. This kids chorus singing the Church—so awesome!

Check out the choir’s blog for more videos and info, including a Phoenix song.

Or visit their youtube channel for more videos.

One for Tawnya!

Holy cow! I keep editing and adding on to this post as I discover more stuff they’ve done. Here they are performing WITH Crowded House!

A video blog.

I was too lazy to take pictures or scan stuff and write everything out about this. Instead I rambled on in front of a webcam.

Watch out for that rock

Photography, Youtube

Yesterday Nathaniel and I tried our hand at some stop-motion movie making. His idea with the rocks.

Song is Modest Mouse - March Into the Sea.

It was a lot of work for only 21 seconds of video. But it was his idea to use big rocks! He did all the rock positioning. I stood and clicked the shutter on the camera. :)

Christmas Day Kickball

Youtube

On Christmas Day we went to a nearby elementary school and played kickball. Our version of kickball, anyway, which means we kick the ball but don’t run bases. Maybe if we had more people playing we’d do the bases. Because like Elijah said, the funnest part is throwing the ball at people to tag them out.

When Elijah was smaller he wanted to grow up to be a professional kickball player.

Here is our kickball game, speeded up to about 4 minutes:

The video was longer but youtube cut it off for some reason. And it cut off the funniest parts. We were acting goofy because we knew we were going to speed the video up. The song is by Boards of Canada.

Daniel’s playlist

Music, Photography, Youtube

Playlist

My parents asked what they could get Daniel for Christmas, so I suggested a portable satellite radio. This particular kind also lets you play mp3s. I had to take a picture of the music my husband has loaded on it so far. He’s one of the few people I’ve ever known who has as diverse taste in music as I do.

Merry Christmas from us!

Photography, Youtube

Merry Christmas from us.

We went to a park on Christmas Day and played kickball. Our version of kickball, anyway. We took video which I’ll post when it’s online.

On Christmas Eve, Nathaniel, his friend Dillon, Cat and I went to the Santa Ana River bike trail and Nathaniel filmed our bike ride. Here it is, sped up and condensed into four minutes.

Nathaniel was hand-holding the camera so it’s a bit jerky, primarily at the beginning. Cat’s in blue and later red (she sheds her jacket off-screen in the middle). I’m in brown and Dillon’s on the skateboard being goofy. It was fun.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.

My brother got me a Lomo Fisheye camera for Christmas. Cool, huh?
