An unknown gem of a song.

Are you familiar with Nickel Creek, the contemporary bluegrass band? They’re really excellent. They’re on my list of musicians where I need to own everything they’ve ever done. Which is why I picked up a solo album by their guitarist, Sean Watkins, a few years back. It’s all instrumentals except for one song, which has guest vocals by Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket.

It’s such an excellent song. I tried to find it on seeqpod or youtube and couldn’t. But it’s on Last.fm:

Listen to it here.

What are some other songs that should be more well-known than they are?

I’ve always loved Nickel Creek. It’s fabulous traveling music (road trips) and the lyrics on most of the songs are very profound.

    I hadn’t heard this one–but I love it!

I can’t think of any songs that should be more well-known; but I’ve lost my memory. It’s the pregnancy. It makes my brain mushy…

I like it, too. I’m going to have to look for some more Nickel Creek. I always think all of the music you introduce me to that I’ve not heard before should be more well-known. I am definitely not the discoverer of little-known music–I rely on people like you to educate me!

I love Glen Phillip’s voice. He actually did an entire album with Nickel Creek, after collaborating with Sean Watkins on this song, they released it under the name Mutual Admiration Society.

I, for some reason, was thinking Nickleback and was wondering why Glen Phillips would betray me that way. Feeling better now!

    Ha! That would be scary.

Is it the song called “Happy New Year”?

Sorry I never gave the song title. It’s called “Let It Fall.”
