Here are a few clips from live versions of song that I love.
Sixteen Horsepower - “Brimstone Rock”
When he says “I’m serious,” I’m pretty sure that’s not in the studio version of the song. I love it.
Sixteen Horsepower were an interesting band. They were very religious (Christian). I heard they broke up because of religious differences, which always cracked me up.
Magnolia Electric Co - “Such Pretty Eyes For A Snake”
I love how in this live version of the song, the singer says, “You got still something to say about it?” He sounds like he’s talking directly to someone in the audience and it’s not meant to be part of the song. Here’s the clip:
Man, I love Magnolia Electric Co. The best part of that song is this one:
Here’s one of my favorite songs by them, though–the entire song.
Something held me down and made me make a promise
That I wouldn’t tell when the truth forgets about us
Saying it now comes easily
After finding out how you’ve been using me
At least the dark don’t hide it
You said you only wanted friends
For long enough to get rid of them
You found the kind you knew would only kill you
So you surrounded yourself with them
At least the dark don’t hide it
Now the world was empty on the day when they made it
And heaven needed someplace to throw all the s**t
Human hearts and pain should never be separate
They wouldn’t tear themselves apart, both trying to fit
At least the dark don’t hide it
Now Death is gonna hold us up in the mirror
And say we’re so much alike we must be brothers
“See I had a job to do, but people like you
Been doing it for me to one another”
At least I don’t hide it
